OPPORTUNITY. This is an opportunity. Believe what you want to believe and see what you want to see, but this is an opportunity. Randy Jackson has given me an opportunity to help reach more people with the JZ Brand, the White Shades, the other half of the heavenly Angels Champion, the Bojangles’ Champion. Just like this opportunity I have been given, 30 males and 30 females will be given an opportunity to headline the GREATEST wrestling event of the year WrestleMania and claim the greatest championship in professional wrestling.
The Royal Rumble, in my opinion, is the most drama filled match of the year. It’s an opportunity to see so many superstars, past and present, in the ring. You get the anticipation of a new wrestler coming out every 90 seconds, which is even more heightened because the potential randomness of who it could be. The rush you feel when that SURPRISE entrant comes out that you weren’t expecting, such as Hurricane Shane Helms entry in 2018 just adds so much to this match. The suspense is built even more when you see the antics of people like Kofi Kingston evade elimination by not allowing his feet touch the ground. You also get invested into that wrestler who has been there the longest time because of their ability to hide or even out last the other competitors and you can feel your blood pressure spike when they are almost eliminated.
It’s no shock why it’s one of the pillars the WWE has built their foundation for the year. The names of the people who have won are all mostly Hall of Famers or people who destined to be in the Hall of Fame. They are wrestlers who even non-wrestling fans know of. Its people like Stone Cold, Ric Flair, Shawn Micheals, Triple H, Edge, Hulk Hogan, and Batista, all of whom the majority of people would know. Winning the Royal Rumble is similar to winning the Intercontinental title as in it’s 2nd only to being the main event of WrestleMania. Its something a wrestler can put on their resume of wrestling to take around the world.
The Rumble is all about the numbers. 3….2….1… BOOM The next entrant comes out. Two people have won from the number 1 spot. Two have won from the number 2 spot. One from the number 3 spot. 1 from the number 5 spot and we could continue on with the list. But the real winners of this match are the fans at home. It so easy to get lost in a match that has so much hoopla around it. The match may be nothing but spots and elbow, elbow, elbow and another elbow, but no one can deny the energy and the rush that is felt when the last two combatants are in the ring. Then that last person stands tall, points to the WrestleMania sign and in a drowning sea of boos or jeers, heads to WrestleMania and wrestling immortality.
